From an empty commercial building to a growing community of music makers.

Sound City Amsterdam offers professional music studios for musicians, producers and artists at a time when creative workspaces are becoming increasingly scarce.

Sound City Amsterdam came about during the renovation of a commercial building in Amsterdam. During that project, we were asked whether the space might be suitable for music production.

That question gave us an idea. We looked into the state of permanent music studios and quickly discovered that affordable, professional workspaces for musicians, producers and artists were becoming increasingly scarce. Many creative spaces were disappearing due to housing development and redevelopment, while music studios, with their specific demands around acoustics and sound insulation, cannot simply be built in just any location.

At the same time, we saw demand actually growing. Musicians and producers were increasingly looking for a permanent place where they could leave their equipment and work undisturbed.

That struck us as a challenge worth taking on.

What began with twelve private music studios quickly grew into more. Within a short time all the studios were rented and a waiting list formed. Driven by the strong demand, we built five additional studios.

Today, Sound City Amsterdam consists of seventeen professional private studios across two locations. The studios are used daily for music production, songwriting, recording, mixing and mastering by a diverse group of musicians, producers and artists.

Our studios are rented long-term and accessible 24 hours a day. Thanks to camera and alarm security, musicians can safely leave their equipment and use their studio as a permanent creative workplace.

An active community has also grown around the studios. A place where music makers meet, collaborate and start new projects.

While building our studios, we spent years experimenting, testing and optimising in the fields of acoustics, sound insulation and studio design. That hands-on experience became the foundation for Sound City Acoustics, through which we now design and build professional studios and acoustic solutions for other parties.

From that same experience, Sound City Cabins was also born. During the development of our studios, we were increasingly asked whether a professional music studio could also be built in other locations. That led to the development of prefab music studios and creative workspaces that can be placed almost anywhere.
